Box Elder County Fair and Rodeo, 2011

It's a Buxton family tradition to meet at the Farm Bureau burger stand, for some of the best homemade hamburgers, prior to the rodeo. This year we were joined by Nan, Loralee, Heber, Leandra, Brian, Brilee (5), and Rosie and family.

Von, Nan, Leandra, Loralee, Brilee, and Heber.

Camron, Kristin, Rosie.

David and Tyler.

Our group baking in the sun prior to the rodeo.

Special recognition went to the many EMT's that help out at the rodeo each year, including this life flight helicopter that hovered overhead before the rodeo.

It was another great rodeo, even though the cattle won as usual. There were some great rides, though...the highlight of the night being a young girl's ride backwards on a sheep (mutton-busting) all the way across the arena for a score of 91!! The motorcycle dare devils put on an amazing show, too, with their perfect jumps and stunts from one ramp to another high in the air! And good ol' clown, Randy Muns, our age, was still performing.

Cub River Revisited 2011

Von and I had planned to go to the Box Elder County Rodeo this year, and I proposed a visit to Cub River for a picnic and hike to the "Deep Freeze", a favorite short hike to the head of the Cub River in the Willow Flat Campground...the site of many Buxton Family Reunions in years past. Nan, Loralee, Heber, and Sheila's family decided to join us, so we picked up some KFC in Logan on our way.

Having a picnic near the trail head. Loralee, Heber, Von, Sheila.

Nan, Halie, Lexi and Jon.

Me and Nan.

On our way up the trail...about a 20-minute hike.

Crossing one of two bridges.

Lexi riding on Jon's back.

Halie among the many flowers.

Sheila packing Jordan.

More pretty flowers.

Nan resting.

Halie and the mighty Cub River.

The "Deep Freeze". Where the water comes out of the mountain. The best drinking water on earth!

Sheila's family there for the first time.

Jordan passed out.

Nan and Von at the Deep Freeze.

It's probably been 10 years since we were here, and it's still the way we remember it.

Von and Loralee.

Heber and Lexi.

Lexi hiked down with me and had the time of her life. We stopped at just about every flower.

Rest stop on the way down...Lexi, Halie, and Grandpa.

Nan and Von.

More summer fun!

At the annual Kearns Fire, Water, and Ice Festival, held on Sat. August 13 this year! We get there early while the water is clean and crowds are fewer. They have swimming (water), ice skating (ice), and fireworks (fire) at the end of the day. Also several side games, air rides, food venders, and a stage going for different bands and entertainment. Tickets are very cheap for the entire day. Fireworks didn't happen, though, due to high winds that night.

Lexi taking her first slide on one of the big ones!

Why we call it the bucket pool. Large bucket fills with water, them dumps on people who stand or lie under it every 15 minutes or so.

A little more confidence the second time down!

Halie working the obstacle course!

A favorite playground behind the Olympic Skating Oval.

Lexi loves playgrounds, and especially the slides.

Halie posing.

Halie posing before our hike around Silver Lake... a popular hike around a lake at the top of Cottonwood Canyon....Brighten Ski Resort.

Sheila and Jon packing the little ones.

On the trail to the lake.

No fish today.

Still lots of ducks around.

Midway around the lake.

Still a favorite hike with little ones.

David's 34th!

This is my only begotten son, David. Others call him Dave, but I've only ever called him David. What a ham he can be! He's turning 34 today somewhere on the other side of the world, while deployed for the umpteenth time. He loves flying, though, and doing his part for mankind amid conflict. We are so proud of all he does, and especially his love and quality time spent with his sweet family when they are together. We love and miss you!!!! Be safe!!

Camron's baptism

Camron William Robinson, 8 years old! The age of accountability according to scriptures restored in these latter days. "And their children shall be baptized for the remission of their sins when eight years old, and receive the laying on of hands ...for the gift of the Holy Ghost". (Doctine and Covenants 68: 25-27)

The program. Two children in the ward turned 8 and were baptized the same day. The bishop was at a temple endowment session of a ward member, so his counselor, Justin Call, presided.

Rosie, David and Camron prior to the service.

Rosie gave a wonderful talk on the Holy Ghost, using her bag of visuals. The Spirit was very strong during the entire service. David gave a great prayer during Camron's confirmation.

We all met afterwards at Rosie's for a light breakfast.

Sheila, Jordan, and Ben Stobbe.

Abby Hernandez and baby Mia, Sara Robinson, and the scene.

Jessica, Blair, and Loralee

Camron opening his gifts from Von and me...the "comforter" blanket, and a baptism memory book.

A special day for all of us.
